Cell Science Core

Director: Robert Mason, Ph.D.

The Cell Science Core has been set up to provide cell culture and protein analysis facilities, support and training for researchers at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. The core is designed to provide access to state of the art technology that is available both in-house and at associated institutions within our INBRE/COBRE network. We also provide a molecular biology resource through our Biomolecular Core Laboratory and cell sorting through our Flow Cytometry/FACS Core Laboratory.

Our in-house cell biological services include EBV-cell transformation, establishment of embryonic stem cells, and preparation of primary cell cultures. Our in-house protein analysis facilities include protein separation technologies, western blotting, 2D gel electrophoresis, and differential protein expression analysis. Individual proteins can be identified by extraction, protease digestion and arraying for mass analysis by MS/MS.

In association with the University of Delaware and the University of New Mexico, we provide a seamless access to advanced imaging and proteomic facilities. Our facility is designed to be able to flexibly adapt so that we can rapidly provide advice on and access to new technologies as they emerge.
